Babies Born into a World with No Mouths
The pandemic sent us all home to do what we could while "sheltering-in-place". For many of us, that meant taking on the role of teacher to young children. Parents did their best to keep their children in a rhythm, yet the missing link for children (and adults) was social connection.
Now that we are moving to a new normal, studies show a developmental delay in babies and children born and raised during the pandemic due to adult mask wearing hiding the full range of expressions that are needed in order to develop naturally.

A Gun or a Phone or a Box of Condoms from Walgreens
At the start of the BLM movement in 2020 a caucasian woman, Amy Cooper, was in Central Park with her dog. An African American man, Christian Cooper, was bird watching in the park that day and requested that she put her dog on its leash. While he recorded, she threatened to call the police and tell them that an African American man was threatening her life. She subsequently lost her job and her dog and the reaction to this incident was shame, sadness and outrage.
The cries to defund the police were followed by many changes, including decriminalizing theft. Police stood by while people walked into stores and took what they wanted.

Finally We Stood for Something
The years from 2020-2022 were challenging in ways that most of us have rarely known and it brought new levels of discomfort within ourselves as we were confronted with a litany of new conversation topics. One benefit from this time seems to be that people have chosen to believe in something, even if the temporary result is a more severed landscape. From the polarized political environment to the youth in Iran, people are standing up for their beliefs in a new way.

Defund the Police
After the unearthing of stories of black American deaths at the hands of police (George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Elijah McClain and more), the BLM movement lead a cry to “Defund the Police.” The American people protested, asking the government and police forces to enact a complete police reform that would end violence against blacks by police officers.
2020 was a year of constant uprisings with riots littering our country on a weekly basis. People were trying to make sense of what was happening and took to the streets as much because they felt the need to do something as in hopes to get information about what was really going on.

Mere months after Covid turned us all indoors, an African-American man named George Floyd was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for being suspected of using a counterfeit $20 bill at a convenience store. His arrest and murder were caught on the cell phone of a passerby and the footage went viral.
This was the spark that the Black Lives Matter organization used to make progress on their mission of equality for black Americans. This incident helped to publicize the organization and allow for traction on a political level.

Deepstate
2020 was full of rumors and conspiracy theories, many of which involved the topic of the “deep state”, which refered to unelected forces that have power over the U.S. government.
People suspected that the spread of coronavirus was a deep state coup and the deep state got blamed for anything and everything during the Trump administration as people tried to make sense of what was happening in the world.
The deep state was referred to in reference to the Epstein scandal, the English royal family, the Clintons, pizza gate, the pedophilia rings, the drinking of adrenochrome, the eating of human flesh, tampering with the election, the uncovering of controversial emails and other topics.

Meeting of Two Minds
The period during the COVID-19 pandemic polarized the American people around many topics, including healthcare. The world split between those who stayed fearfully masked at home awaiting the vaccine and those who saw it as an over-dramatic circus show and rebelled against the rules. Amongst a heavy atmosphere of suspicion, people questioned the motives of the politicians, leaders and pharmaceutical companies and there were waring stories about the origins of the virus, the danger level of the disease, validity of studies, best method of treatment and the vaccine.

Karen's Ego
When mask wearing was mandatory in the pandemic, the everyday citizens who were voluntarily enforcing the government mask mandate were coined as a "Karen". Social media was rife with posts including the phrase "Don't be such a Karen". This giant name tag mirrors the self aggrandizement of these self-appointed guardians of that culture.
