Version 2 is a spoof on the original #coronavirus animated collage. 

The source material is a vintage movie poster from an early Jack Nicholson film called “Back Door to Hell.”

All of the pieces in the "Banned Hashtags" series are a reflection of the events, politics and conspiracy theories of 2020. 

This piece serves as a record of these things that happened in our recent history.

This piece emerged as a reflection of the use of the hashtag #chinavirus, coined by  President Donald Trump to blame China for the Coronavirus after speculation that it originated in Wuhan.  

This work also tells the story of the Asian hate movement that was spurred in the US during 2020, leading to protests, parades and social media campaigns of Americans standing up against Asian hate crimes. 

It had me wanting to call my Asian friends and hear their story, which tied in with the words “call her.” 

The Proud Boys is a far-right, white supremacist organization that promotes and engages in political violence in the United States. 

The group emerged to promote their ideals in response to the rising of the BLM movement in 2020 and are thought to have led the attack on the US Capitol in Washington in 2020. 

The use of this hashtag was banned by all social media outlets.   

This piece was made to accompany the 3D collage version by the same name (Art-->2021). 

This piece records history when Trump followers organized an attack on the US Capitol. 

Five people were killed and 138 were injured during the attack, and eventually the president was impeached.
